"Behind the Stats: Meyer's Miracle"
This past season, Don Meyer cemented his name among college basketball’s greatest when his Northern State (S.D.) team gave Meyer his 903rd career victory.
The fact that Meyer reached win No. 903 is a miracle. (

FREE AUTOGRAPHS FROM DENNY MATTHEWS AND FRANK WHITE!!

WHAT MATT IS READING/HEARING

Usually at a signing, or at times through e-mail, Matt is asked what books he personally reads and (sometimes): "What's in your CD player now?" So, this section features Matt's picks, if you will, on books, music and whatever else. It will be updated as often as possible, or warranted, so be sure to check back.

Week of August 24, 2008
Book:
Matt's reading through The Gay Talese Reader by Gay Talese, while wrapping up editing on Bill Self: At Home in the Phog, a book by Bill Self due out in October.

Music: "Feels Like Home" by Norah Jones.

Week of May 18, 2008
Book:
Matt's still trying to finish
No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin, while editing Guardians of the Game, a book due out this fall.

Music:
Live at the Gorge by Pearl Jam.

Television: House. The writing of Hugh Laurie's character is fantastic.

Week of March 23, 2008
Book: No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The Pulitzer Prize bestselling book is an intriguing look at Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt during World War II.

Music:
Matt's still hooked on John Denver's Country Roads Collection and the Foo Fighters' Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

Week of January 27, 2008
With the deadline of his next book, "Good, Bad, Ugly: Pittsburgh Steelers" (which is due out in August 2008) behind him, Matt is getting into these:

Book:
The River of Doubt by Candice Millard. The book is a captivating tale of Teddy Roosevelt's trip to the Amazon after he lost a bid for a third term in the White House.

Music:
Matt's hooked on An Evening with John Denver and Pearl Jam's self-titled CD, well, Pearl Jam.

MATT'S LATEST BOOKS

Hi, Anybody!,
co-authored with Denny Matthews, gives an inside look at baseball and some of the game's goofball rules, through the eyes of Matthews, the Baseball Hall of Fame's 2007 Ford C. Frick Award winner. The book is now in stores!

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly: Pittsburgh Steelers
, offers a look at humorous, painful and sometimes sad anecdotes throughout the Steelers' history. (We've been told it's a great bathroom read.)

Veteran's Day Tribute Excerpts
The following excerpts from the book are on two of the Steelers' military heroes, "Bullet" Bill Dudley and Rocky Bleier.

For "Bullet" Bill Dudley, click here.
For Rocky Bleier, click here.

Here is Matt's interview on "The Drive" on ESPN-1250 in Pittsburgh on November 5th. (By the way, Matt doesn't actually write for The Kansas City Star anymore.)

"Matt Fulks stressed to me a few times during the writing of (the book) that this is not intended to be a complete history of the Pittsburgh Steelers. ... However, through the good -- and in spite of the bad and the ugly -- this book reminds us why we're proud to be Pittsburgh Steelers." -- Steelers great Rocky Bleier from the book's Foreword.

The book is available at bookstores or at Amazon.com. So if you're a Steelers fan, know a Steelers fan or for some reason just enjoy Matt's writing,
click here to get your copy.

Matt didn't actually write Bill Self's newest book, At Home In The Phog (he only edited it). But it's required reading for fans of KU, Bill Self, college basketball, the coaching profession, humor, and great stories. It's not your typical autobiography. You can get it
here through Amazon.com
